I noted with sadness that the birds in the North Korea book are unrealistic. When I sat with a government minder amidst other government officials in NK as I searched for my family, I was served a scrawny sparrow. It sat on the dish with its little legs stuck into the air. I absolutely could not eat it. Then I realized that my minder (a woman) did not have a sparrow on her plate. I whispered to her that she had to save me because it was against my cultural upbringing to eat sparrows, then I grasped the sparrow by its tiny feet and slid it onto her plate. She relished every bit of that sparrow. I never knew sparrow bones had sufficient marrow to suck, but she devoured all the bones. I liked your book.
